Shelly has released a new firmware version for its smart Gen2+ devices. Version 1.6.1 brings both new features and important bug fixes designed to improve the user experience.
- Gradual update: The firmware will not be available for all devices simultaneously
- Matter integration: 2PM Gen3 now supports Matter protocol for window coverings
- Improved safety: Overcurrent protection for 1L Gen3 and 2L Gen3 models
- BTHome optimizations: Fixed issues with virtual groups and connection drops

Firmware version 1.6.1 was officially released on May 7, 2025. You can read all details in the official changelog.
Important note: Firmware version 1.6.1 is being rolled out gradually, so not all devices will receive the update immediately.
New Features
With this update, Shelly has implemented the following new features:
- 2PM Gen3: Added support for Matter window coverings, expanding compatibility with the Matter smart home standard
- 1L Gen3 and 2L Gen3: Added overcurrent protection, protecting your devices from potential damage due to electrical overloads
Bug Fixes
The following issues have been fixed in this firmware version:
- BTHome: Fixed issues with virtual groups of BTHomeSensor components
- BTHome: Fixed a crash that occurred when the RPC call was terminated despite no connection being present anymore
